GUIDE TO CRUISING

HEALTH CLUBS & SPAS
I'm sort of a fitness nut. Can I keep in shape on a cruise?

You sure can! Nearly all the newer ships have extensive facilities including weights, treadmills, stair climbers, stationary bicycles, and cool machines to stretch your muscles and burn the calories. Exercising with an ocean view can be invigorating. Many ships have large indoor and outdoor aerobic areas for daily scheduled classes. There are changing rooms, saunas and showers. There's no charge for using the facilities and for general assistance from the staff, but there are extra charges for personal spa services and for private trainers.
Don't forget your workout shoes and workout clothing. Towels are provided by the ship. Many of the health facilities now feature juice bars, with the refreshments available for a small additional fee.

What else can I do to keep fit on my cruise?

1. Many ships have jogging tracks and promenades that are perfect for morning or afternoon walks.
2. Enjoy whirlpools and regular swimming pools on most ships, and "against the tide" lap pools on some ships.
3. Enter the sports tournaments onboard. Some offer everything from ping-pong to basketball, tennis and volleyball.
4. Take some swings in the golf simulator. (Not all ships have golf simulators. Those that do often have a fee for this activity.)
5. Some of the new ships offer rock-climbing walls, ice-skating and even bowling.
6. Avoid the elevators and take the stairs. On a big ship, you will feel it after a few days!

What types of spa services are available?

Some of the most fantastic spas in the world are now on cruise ships! Almost anything you would find at the most prestigious spas on land can be found at sea. Aromatherapy, exotic mud baths and body wraps, revitalizing facials, skin treatments, and every sort of massage imaginable are part of the offerings.

Is there a place to get my nails done and my hair styled?

Most ships do have a beauty salon with manicure and pedicure services available. Make your appointments as soon as possible after boarding as these appointments fill up fast.
