GUIDE TO CRUISING

HONEYMOONS & WEDDINGS
      Are cruises good for honeymoons?

Cruises are great for honeymoons because they are extremely romantic, you do not have to keep packing and unpacking, and you can do as much or as little as you want. Cruises are generally good values, and you can budget your honeymoon with relative ease since so much is included in the cruise package price.
You can book an inexpensive room or a luxury suite depending on your tastes and budget. Let Cruise and Resort know that you are planning a honeymoon, and your agent will have specific recommendations based on many years of planning honeymoons.

What cruise should we take for our honeymoon?

It all depends on what type of travelers you are. NCL does year-round Hawaii cruises that are wonderful for honeymoons who love beaches. Get a little more exotic and take a romantic cruise to Tahiti. Anything's possible when love is the core ingredient!

Are there honeymoon packages we can purchase?

Most cruise lines offer special honeymoon amenity packages including champagne, flowers, cocktail parties, and special photographs. Your Cruise and Resort agent is pleased to provide you with information on these packages.

Can we register for our honeymoon cruise just like we do for flatware and china?

Several cruise lines offer this as part of their honeymoon packages. Cruise and Resort can assist you in arranging a registry for cruise lines not specifically offering this service.

      What about bed configuration?

Most cabins have two twin beds that the cabin steward can join together to make one queen or king-size bed. Only the lowest priced rooms on a few ships have the old bunk-bed style configuration. If you can afford it in your budget, a honeymoon is the perfect time to splurge on a suite or mini-suite.

Can we have a wedding on a cruise?

Yes you can. Ask for one of the Cruise and Resort wedding specialists to assist you with your planning.
  • On some ships, the ceremony is performed while the ship is docked and prior to the cruise departure. On some ships, weddings can be performed at sea.
  • The couple getting married must be booked on the cruise, and any weddings must be planned and confirmed in advance.
  • The couple is responsible for obtaining a valid marriage license from the jurisdiction where the wedding will take place. Some cruise lines can assist you with obtaining the license for an additional fee, or as part of a wedding package.
  • If it is a second marriage for either individual, you must bring proof of previous divorce or widowhood, in addition to your new marriage license.
  • Live or recorded music, video and photography services and formal attire rentals are available for the ceremony.
  • If the ceremony is the same afternoon as the cruise departure, guests not sailing on the cruise can get special passes to join you during your special day, subject to prior approval from the cruise line. Also, a special luncheon can be purchased for you and your wedding guests on many ships.
  • Most onboard wedding packages on the day of departure allow for up to 8 guests. If a catered reception is added, guest count can increase subject to cruise line limitations. Some cruise lines limit even catered events to 40 guests.
  • Many people have their wedding party join them for the entire cruise. It is joyous time to share with friends and relatives, but privacy is also readily available.
  • Invitations and announcements can be part of some cruise lines' wedding packages.

          Who performs the wedding ceremony?

You can bring your own rabbi, priest, minister or other party legally permitted to perform weddings. Some cruise lines can assist you in finding an individual to perform the wedding. Notaries are permitted to marry couples in the state of Florida. On a few cruise lines, captains may be able to perform the ceremony. Obviously, it is important to consult with one of our wedding specialists in advance.

Which ships have wedding chapels onboard?

Many of the new ships have chapels specially designed for weddings. Princess Cruises has the chapels on the Grand Princess, Golden Princess and Star Princess. Royal Caribbean has them on the Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas and the Adventure of the Seas. Carnival has chapels on the Carnival Spirit and Carnival Pride. Some older ships will be adding chapels, and most of the new mega-ships are building them right from the beginning.
Even if your ship does not have a wedding chapel, most cruise lines can accommodate your wedding on deck or in a pre-reserved public room or lounge.

How much does a wedding on a cruise ship cost?

This depends on how big and how elaborate you want to go. Some of the wedding packages can be as low as a few hundred dollars. Add guests, a luncheon celebration, flowers, band and video, and the price goes up considerably. The thing to remember is that the prices are usually less than or equal to a wedding on land.

You can arrange a wedding in a romantic port of call, subject to the laws and regulations of the country the port is located in.

Can we get a special group rate if our wedding party joins us on the cruise?

Yes. Cruise and Resort will assist you with all your group travel plans. If your group consists of at least 8 cabins (16 people), we can usually have the sixteenth cruise free. Cruise and Resort can also work it so that you get the cash credit for that sixteenth person toward your cruise costs. All terms and group arrangements must be made and agreed to in advance.

          What about renewing our vows?

This works the same as the wedding packages without the license fees. It is fun and it is romantic! For the renewal of vows ceremony, most cruise lines require proof of a valid marriage.

What steps should I take first in planning my wedding package?

    1. Find the cruises that excite you and your future husband or wife the most.
